The Dakar 2009 Stage 14. The final day

Stans race ended as it began with him pushing as hard as he could to finish the day in 18th place on the stage. Another fantastic ride!

Sadly Stans revoked penatly of 4 hrs was yesterday 'un-revoked' and his final position which was 20th overall has now dropped to 38th place...

The penalty was given originally because the organisers believe Stan missed a check-point. This happened because Stans onboard computer was damaged in a crash which caused it to lock out 100metres before he reached the last check-point on Stage 13. Even though Stan went through this marker, his system didn't show it so the organisers assumed he hadn't made it and added the 4 hrs. Although the penalty was originally revoked, a subsequent complaint by another rider forced the organisers to reinstate it.

While disappointed about the penalty, Stan is delighted to have ridden The Dakar so well for his first attempt!

Stan arrives back home on Tuesday 20th with the rest of the team.... Well done to everyone for such an awesome job!!

  3. Well done stan, great battle with mick, fantastic to follow on the live tracking, seems you did more than just finish what with stopping to help another rider earlier and the later even with an injury came in 18th on the last stage.. . Being in a great team and not being in it for yourself (unlike others) makes you the best british rider . .especially for your first attempt at the dakar . . You are a true hero !

I followed you and supported you throughout the Dakar. HOwever, the cruel and personal comments made by some of your suppoters about Mick really puts me off! If any of them knew Mick they would know that he doesnt complain. He gets on with it! I thought the GPS had been checked again after a complaint was put in and they confirmed you hadnt been there. I could be wrong and no one accussed you of foul play AT ALL throughout despite the reaction of your supporters. I know a complaint was also put in but not by Mick. You have to pay to put a complaint in to start with so that rules Mick out!!! He never has any money!! I am a friend of Micks and I wrote his blog. Check out what happened as it happened before you go giving people to wrong impression! That is so unsportsman like of all of you. Mick didnt even complain about the original 4hrs HE was given despite everyone else doing so! He just wanted to get on with it! As his supporters we were gutted but we were for all the riders. The organisers are the ones you should be looking at to blame. You both worked really hard and you will see on Micks blog that everyone who made comments wished you well. None of them took personal attacks at you for getting the time back!!! For people to also go on Eurosport and slate Micks abilities because they dont like the result is just sad. That guy has worked his ass off and dont forget, he was given the penalty too! He lost his dream to be in the top 20!!! What a horrible way to end what was an amazing fight by both of you.

  5. I'm sorry to have written this on your blog but it was the only way to get through to you and the comments on here needed to be balanced out. How can people say such things publically with no facts to go on. It makes me so mad! Well done for finishing by the way and fingers crossed for next year.
